What is an image converter?

An image converter changes an image from one supported file format into another. Different formats are useful for different jobs: JPG is widely compatible and often compact for photographs, PNG can retain transparency, WebP can provide efficient web images, and other formats may be useful for particular software or workflows.

Change file format

Convert supported images when another application, website or workflow expects a different format.

Prepare web images

WebP can be useful for web delivery where browser and platform support meet your requirements.

Keep the original

Conversion creates a new output. Keep the source file when you may need its original format or quality.

How to convert an image

  1. Select your images. Choose one or more supported image files from your computer, phone or tablet.
  2. Choose the output format. Select JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP from the conversion menu.
  3. Choose a quality setting. Where supported by the processing service, the selected setting controls the output trade-off between quality and file size.
  4. Start conversion. Select Convert Images. The page waits for the real processing job rather than displaying a fabricated progress percentage.
  5. Download the result. Successful jobs return individual output files for download.

Choosing the right image format

JPG

A common choice for photographs and broadly compatible images. JPG uses lossy compression and does not preserve transparency.

PNG

Useful when lossless image data or transparency is important. PNG can be larger than a compressed photographic JPG.

WebP

A modern web-oriented format that can provide efficient image files. Check the destination application's compatibility before converting.

Practical uses

Website publishing

Prepare image files for a CMS, static website or application that expects a particular format.

Design workflows

Convert an image when a graphics or office application requires a different input format.

File sharing

Create a more suitable format for a recipient, platform or service without changing the original source file.

Important limitations

  • Conversion does not automatically improve the quality of an image that is already low resolution or heavily compressed.
  • Lossy formats can introduce additional compression artefacts when an already-compressed image is converted and saved again.
  • Transparency may not survive conversion into a format that does not support an alpha channel.
  • Animated images and multi-frame files may require format-specific handling and are not guaranteed to preserve animation in every conversion.
  • Colour profiles, metadata, animation, layers and other format-specific features may not be preserved.
  • Actual production file-size, image-dimension, concurrency and processing limits are enforced by the backend and should not be inferred from this page.

Tips for better results

Match the destination

Choose the output format based on where the file will be used, not simply on the smallest possible file size.

Keep a source copy

Do not discard an original image until you have checked the converted output.

Check transparency

If a transparent background matters, use a format that supports transparency and inspect the converted result.

Frequently asked questions

Which image formats can I upload?

The page accepts common JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF image files. Final supported formats are enforced by the production processing service.

Which formats can I convert to?

The current interface offers JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP as output choices. The backend determines whether a particular source-to-output combination is supported.

Can I convert JPG to PNG?

Yes, the interface supports JPG/JPEG input with PNG as an output option, subject to successful backend processing.

Can I convert PNG to JPG?

Yes. Be aware that JPG does not support transparency, so a transparent PNG may need a background when converted to JPG.

Can I convert PNG to WebP?

Yes, where the production conversion service supports that source and destination combination.

Will image quality stay the same?

It depends on the formats and settings used. Converting into a lossy format or using stronger compression can reduce image quality.

Does converting an image make it higher quality?

No. A format conversion changes how the image is stored; it cannot reliably recreate detail that is absent from the source.

Will transparency be preserved?

Only when the output format supports transparency and the conversion service preserves the source alpha information.

Can I convert several images at once?

The interface accepts multiple image files and submits them as one conversion job. The production backend must support multi-file jobs for this workflow to complete.

Can I use the image converter on my phone?

Yes. The page is responsive and uses the device's normal file picker on supported mobile browsers.

Can I convert a photo for a website?

Yes. WebP or another format may be appropriate depending on the site's browser support, CMS requirements and image pipeline.

Does converting to JPG remove transparency?

Yes. JPG has no transparency channel, so transparent areas must be represented by a background in the output.

Does conversion preserve metadata?

Metadata preservation depends on the source format, output format and backend implementation. Do not assume that EXIF, colour profiles or other metadata will remain.

Can animated GIFs be converted?

Animation preservation is format-dependent. A conversion may produce a single frame or otherwise handle animation differently unless the backend explicitly supports it.

Can I convert TIFF files?

TIFF is accepted by the interface. Successful conversion depends on the backend supporting the specific TIFF structure and requested output.

Why did my converted file look different?

Differences can result from compression, colour management, transparency handling, resizing or format-specific features that are not supported by the destination format.

Is the conversion done in my browser?

The page is designed to submit conversion jobs to the Docelora processing API. It does not pretend that a successful conversion occurred when the backend has not completed it.

Are there file-size limits?

Production limits should be enforced by the backend based on server resources and abuse controls. This page deliberately does not invent a backend limit.

What happens if conversion fails?

The page displays an error returned by the processing workflow. You can check the source file and try again, or choose another compatible output format.

Should I keep my original image?

Yes. Keep an original copy when image quality, metadata or future editing may matter.
